DONATE Knowing our history is more important than ever these days. The Oakland-based Huey P. Newton Foundation is working to make sure the full legacy and learnings of The Black Panther Party are available to everyone. Dr. Huey P. Newton co-founded the Black Panthers in 1966 and today his widow, Fredrika Newton runs the foundation and is spearheading their efforts, including digitizing 13-years-worth of the Black Panther weekly newspapers, installing public art and monuments commemorating the Party, and opening the Black Power for The People Museum in Oakland. Read the full story on Fredrika, her time with the BPP, and the foundation right here. And help them reach their $5 million fundraising goal today.

KNOW THIS Learn about the history of wade ins, the demonstrations that brought down segregated beaches, and the complicated relationship between race and access to water.

SIGN UP Are you part of the Ally Nudge army yet? The brilliant antiracism educator Dr. Akilah Cadet teamed up with the Nudge app to launch the Ally Nudge, a month of teachings sent over text message up to three times a week. The service costs $5 per month with proceeds going to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. On each “nudge day” she sends one educational text in the morning—maybe a podcast to listen to, an article to read, or a video to watch—and one action prompt in the evening, encouraging allies to fund a political campaign, email a CEO, or post a message on social media. You can read her full story here.

CHECK THIS OUT To make it easier to access the resources we've sent in past weeks, there is now a Resources landing page over on the new REP CO website. It contains reading lists, recommended movies, shows, and videos, and petition links. We will also be posting the 5 Things newsletter as a weekly post over on the site

ATTEND THIS Did you know our own San Francisco State University is home to the internationally recognized Arab and Muslim Ethnicities and Diasporas Studies department (AMED)? They've been doing important work for years, and this Wednesday they will be hosting the webinar: Whose Narratives? Gender, Justice, & Resistance: A conversation with Leila Khaled. It's open to everyone and will include a historic roundtable conversation with Palestinian feminist, militant, and leader Leila Khaled, followed by Q&A discussion with students, activists, and scholars.

SIGN UP TO GET 5 THINGS DELIVERED RIGHT TO YOUR INBOX EVERY FRIDAY. YOUR $5 MEMBERSHIP FEE WILL GO TO DIRECTLY TO PAY BLACK CREATIVES.
